Jabon (Neolamarckia cadamba)
Our project is unique in that we decided to plant Jabon (Neolamarckia cadamba) - a fast-growing tree species indigenous to Malaysia on our plantation. This species is harvestable in 6 years (compared to the 20-30 years required for some species of trees farmed in western countries to reach maturity) and provides an effective and efficient way to conserve our planet's natural resources by replacing other common woods used in furniture, packaging paper etc. with Jabon.
More Info/Potential Advantages
Uses of Jabon
Usage includes plywood (veneer and core), furniture, paper pulp, packaging paper, carbon (low smoke, odourless). The bark has Chinese medicinal value.
Species Category
Belongs to the Light-hardwood category meaning it has several advantageous characteristics such as being strong and durable as well as having a resistance to rot, insects and termite
Other Advantages
Jabon is easy to grow and maintain since the species is self-pruning, thus saving on manual pruning labor costs. It also has regenerative capabilities, so the tree grows back after harvesting
